Tools For Toddler Hairstyles-

I've been posting a lot of toddler hair ideas on my Instagram page and I wanted to share a few of my favorite here. I also wanted to have a landing page for me to put all the links to helpful tools I use on Q's hair. If you have any questions please let me know!

I am a hairstylist and even then I struggled to know what to do with Q's hair. It's short, and super fine. All of the Instagram pages I followed for hair ideas show styles with long, super think, lushes hair... and I was stumped! So if you are in the same boat I hope by me sharing these styles and whys I've adapted styles to work for us that it will help you too!!

I get asked often how I am able to do these hairstyles on Q and have her stay still for them. She is supper wiggly and always on the go... so to answer that question... I don't keep her still.

However the best tip I have for you is to make it a daily routine and have distractions. I usually do her hair while she is eating breakfast. I let he watch a show or play with toys too. And some days I am even chasing her around the house, which is why I haven't filmed any tutorials yet!

Also I have a hair kit that I keep in my kitchen that has everything I need in it to quickly do her hair- It's like my tackle box for her hair.

 

In it I have-

- Clear elastics and color elastics- I like the Proclaim rubber brands- they are cheapest at Sally's Beauty 

-Topsy Tail Tool- I use the smaller one a lot on Q's hair

- A Fine Tooth Rat Tail Comb 

-Spray Gel- I really like this Herbal Essences one, it's light weight and smells good

- A Pony Pick- This is a life savor when you have to take the elastics out of the hair. 

- Alligator hair clips- I don't use these very often on Q's hair but I use them a lot on my hair or thinker hair.

I also have an assortment of bows and clips that I try to switch out often. My favorite shops for bows are- Little Poppy and Co, Alicejaneco , Honey & Co Hair Accessories, and Nova + Rosie Handmade bows

The only thing I can't fit in this kit is the spray water bottle that I use but I think if I bought one that was skinny I could get it to work.

flicker thoughts.. YOU CAN'T STEAL MY HAPPY

I love quotes! This is one I had on a magnet given to me when I was really young. I often think about this reminder. We are as happy as we make up our minds to be... we have a choice. Now I get that depression and anxiety are real and hard, and you can't just "snap" out of those... that's not what I am talking about here. We are all delta trials and hard things in life. We are all facing our own battles. It's up to us to choose to be kind, it's up to us to choose how we are going to handle those hard battles.

When I was struggling with one of our miscarriages... I am sad to say I handled it in a very bitter, angry way... and that's ok. It was important for me to go through those feelings... but I can assure you I bet I wasn't very pleasant to be around.

In contrast I think about Sam Durst. Sam is trapped in a body that he cant move, walk, and has been bound in a wheel chair his whole life. However Sam is one of the most pleasant people to be around. He has a heart of gold and doesn't let his body limit what he can do. He also has a great sense of humor. He serves in the temple, he serves at the local homeless shelter, he serves at an assisted living home.

I think the trick here is service... Service helps us get outside of ourselves. Service helps us love others. Service helps remind us that our trails are not so bad... I don't know about you but I've never wanted to trade my trails for others trail.

My Dad use to always tell me... Sometimes bad things happen to us because we make bad choices. But most of the time bad things happen to good people because that's life. and when those bad times come we need to get out and serve.

One of my mottos lately- YOU CAN'T STEAL MY HAPPY!

The world is going to try and drag us down. Haters going to Hate, right!?

Satan is a master at getting us to think less of ourselves. Satan doesn't want us to be happy and he is going to do everything in his power to stop us from being happy.

Again, if we look to Christ and his example, In his greatest trials he was serving his people. So no Satan, not today. You can't steal my happy today!!

Big Hair...

Don't they say the higher the hair, the closer to heaven... Well we are going to get heavenly!!!

I love to do my hair this way because it last for a couple of days with out a lot of touching up or messing with... AKA I am lazy and it's worth it to me to put in a little effort on a few times a week instead of EVERYDAY.

I've been doing my hair like this since high school, and I try other things but always find myself going back to the good old Velcro rollers.

Tips to get your makeup to last all day long...

Do you apply your makeup and then a few hours later its shiny, or has completely disappeared from your face??

Here are a few tips and tricks on getting your makeup to look great all day long!!!

#1- Prime the skin. Just like using primer when you paint your walls you want to prime your face. Primer will help even out your skin texture, fill in the pours, and give something for the makeup to stick to. 

The Maskcara Setting Spray - Can be used to help prime the face before applying makeup. It's great at helping control the oil on your face so this is a great option if you feel like you are more on the oily side. 

Pore Master Sebum Control Primer- This is a Korean beauty product and a dupe for the benefits Porefessional primer. You get way more bang for your buck with this product. This is definitely comparable to Benefit's Porefessional. The consistency is the same, but this actually stayed put under my makeup longer than Benefit's version.

#2- Use a setting powder if oily. After applying your makeup you will want to set everything with a setting powder. This helps set everything and makes it so your makeup wont slide around on you. 

Some options to use are the Maskcara vanilla dust.- This is nice because it's small and will fit nicely in your compact. I also like to use it on my eyes to clean up eye-shadows. 

Or the Airspun loose setting powder is a good option as well.

Flicker Thoughts

So one reason why I wanted to start and do a blog is because there is so much more to me than beauty and makeup... and sometimes it's hard to show that on a little square of Instagram and Facebook.

For those of you that don't know, I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Yesterday I sat down and listened to this song on repeat a few times.

Tears built up in my eyes.

 I really hope that I can teach my kids when they have their doubts that they will have faith to do exactly what this song says.

If you haven't listened to it... you should!!

Back in October 2016 I had just suffered from my third miscarriage and I  didn't have any idea what the future held for me.

My faith was shattered and I really doubted everything I had believed in my whole life.

I had so many unanswered questions, and the love that people spoke of from our Heavenly Father and Savior felt so far away.

I started reading the Book of Mormon... and Nephi became my hero and a friend. I realized that he suffered the same things that Lamen and Lemual suffered but it was his choices and actions that led him to be faithful and to believe in God.

I had a choice placed before me, I could be like Nephi or I could be like his brothers. I could choose to have faith like Joseph Smith or I could turn away.

I could choose to have faith like so many faithful and amazing women that had suffered the same heart wrenching things I had faced... or I could turn away and let my doubts creep in.

I am so glad I stuck it out and I choose to do what this song says. I slowly found little flickers of light and hope, and I felt Gods love again.

I know there is a loving Heavenly Father and a Savior that has paid the price for me to return back to live with them.

I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God and he restored his church upon the face of the earth.

I know that we can be with our families forever!!

The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ and I love to read and learn from it!! I know it is true. It has blessed my life in so many ways.
